Great decision on a great mechanical apprentice

Great Decision, Great Apprentice

Initially, Noel Harper of Drysdale Motorswas not convinced that hosting an Australian School-based Apprentice was a good idea. “I didn't think it would work, having someone for ten weeks a year. I thought it would be a bit of an interruption, but it hasn't turned out that way at all, its worked really well.” said Noel.

Noel explains that his decision resulted from the skill shortage facing the industry and his social responsibility. “I felt that I should make the effort to train young guys. The industry is suffering terribly from a lack of skilled mechanics. Everyone needs to train someone,” said Noel.

The decision was a great one for Noel, who commends his Australian School-based Apprentice, Alan, for his commitment, eagerness to learn and outstanding motivation. By Noels admission, the Australian Technical College (ATC) Geelong is a great way for parents to get their kids into a career path earlier. As to whether Alan is learning the right things at school, Noel said, “The College appears to be doing a great job, but someone like Alan is always going to do well. He knows exactly what he wants to do and he's doing it well.”
